Planning Your Armor Progression

Why the Path Matters

Jumping straight from no armor to Adamantite sounds ideal, but the material farming required for Tier 3 content (including the Tier 3 bench upgrade itself) takes significant time. In practice, a full Bronze set lets you survive Zone 2 comfortably enough to farm the Cobalt and Thorium ore needed for Tier 3 armor. Skipping Bronze when you're struggling to survive Zone 2 means longer, riskier farming sessions with higher durability costs.

Workbench Upgrades Are the Bottleneck

Before you can craft Adamantite gear, your Armor Bench needs to be Tier 3. That requires upgrading from Tier 2, which itself needs materials from Zone 2. Build your bench before farming end-game armor materials — otherwise you'll sit on a pile of Adamantite Bars with nowhere to use them. The planner shows you exactly when to prioritize bench upgrades.

Prioritize Chest, Then Legs

If you're upgrading one tier at a time, the Chest Plate gives the biggest single-piece stat increase. Adamantite Chest adds +24 health and 14.4% physical resistance compared to Bronze's +17 health and 9%. Always upgrade your chest first when moving to a new tier — then legs, helmet, and gloves last.

Tier Materials: What You Need at Each Stage

Tier 1Bronze / Copper
  • Bronze Bars (smelted from Copper + Tin)
  • Light Leather (from common animals)
  • Wood Trunks (Zone 1 forests)

Bench: Any Tier 1 Armor Bench. Accessible from the start.

Tier 2Steel / Iron
  • Iron Bars / Steel Bars
  • Medium or Heavy Leather
  • Tier 2 Armor Bench (upgrade required)

Iron is common in Zone 1 caves. Steel requires an alloy step.

Tier 3Adamantite / Thorium
  • Adamantite Bars (Cobalt + Adamantite Ore)
  • Heavy Leather (Zone 2 creatures)
  • Cindercloth Scraps (Zone 2 flame biomes)
  • Tier 3 Armor Bench (required)

Full set: 77 Adamantite Bars, 24 Heavy Leather, 20 Cindercloth.

Common Planning Questions

Should I skip Tier 2 armor entirely?

Possibly. If you can consistently survive Zone 2 in Tier 1 Bronze (which is doable with good potion usage), skipping Steel and going straight to Adamantite saves time. But if Zone 2 is killing you regularly, the Bronze-to-Steel upgrade buys breathing room at a low material cost.

What's the fastest way to gather Adamantite Ore?

Adamantite Ore spawns in Zone 2 cave systems, particularly near lava pockets. Wear at minimum Bronze armor when mining — the Zone 2 ambient creatures hit hard. Bring a full stack of food and plan sessions of 30–45 minutes to justify the travel time.

How long does a full Adamantite set take to farm?

Realistically, 3–5 hours of Zone 2 farming for the ore and leather, not counting Cindercloth collection or the bench upgrade time. Using the planner to pre-calculate your material totals avoids the frustrating situation of being 3 bars short after a long session.
