How to Compare NPC Trading Prices

Buy vs. Sell Price Differences Between Vendors

The same item has different buy and sell prices at different NPCs. Kweebec Merchant (Zone 1) sells Small Health Potions for 10 coins and buys them back for 3. Trork Trader (Zone 2) sells the same potions for 8 coins — but requires Friendly reputation to trade. If you have the reputation, buying from Trork and using in Zone 2 saves 2 coins per potion, which adds up across a long session. The comparator shows these differences side-by-side.

Reputation Requirements Affect Access

Some NPC vendors require minimum reputation levels to access. Trork Trader requires Friendly reputation before the lower Zone 2 prices become available. The comparator flags reputation-gated prices so you know which vendor discounts you actually have access to, and which require reputation farming before the price advantage kicks in.

Arbitrage Opportunities

When a vendor's buy price for an item exceeds another vendor's sell price for the same item, arbitrage is possible — buy low from one vendor, sell high at another. The comparator highlights these situations automatically. In early game, Iron Bar arbitrage (buy 15 from Kweebec Merchant, check if any vendor buys above 15) is a common coin generation route when combat farming isn't yet efficient.

Comparing Vendors Effectively

1
Select the item you want to trade

Search by item name to see all vendors that carry it, their buy prices (what you pay), their sell prices (what they pay you), and any reputation requirements for each vendor.

2
Filter by your reputation levels

Toggle your current reputation with each faction. The comparator grays out or removes vendors you can't yet access, so the comparison shows only prices that are actually available to you right now.

3
Check the price difference column

The "Savings vs. Best" column shows how much cheaper or more expensive each vendor is compared to the best available price. A positive number means this vendor is suboptimal — you'd save that many coins by going to the best vendor instead.

4
Use the bulk purchase calculator

Enter the quantity you're planning to buy. The tool multiplies the per-item price difference by your quantity to show total coins saved by choosing the best vendor. For bulk farming supplies, small per-item differences become significant at scale.

Common Questions

How often do NPC prices change?

NPC base prices for standard items (potions, raw materials) are static. Some NPCs have daily stock limits — if a vendor sells 10 units per day and you buy all 10, that stock is gone until reset. The comparator shows stock-limited vendors with a note so you can plan purchases around stock refreshes.

Is it worth building reputation with Zone 2 vendors?

Trork Trader's Friendly reputation discount on Small Health Potions (10 → 8 coins) saves 2 coins per potion. In a Zone 2 farming session using 10 potions, that's 20 coins saved. The reputation grind time vs. total coin savings determines whether it's worthwhile based on how frequently you farm Zone 2.

Can I compare selling items vs. crafting and selling?

The comparator focuses on vendor prices. For crafting-vs-selling decisions, combine it with the Material Optimizer, which calculates whether crafting bars into gear and selling the gear yields more than selling raw materials directly at NPC buy prices.
