Backpack Upgrade Planner
Your starting inventory only goes so far. Hytale has three backpack upgrades, each adding 9 extra slots — but the materials required jump sharply with each tier. This planner shows exactly what you need, tracks which materials you already have, and calculates how close you are to the next upgrade so you can decide where to focus your gathering runs.

How Backpack Upgrades Work in Hytale
Players start with 18 inventory slots. Three upgrade items can be crafted and consumed to expand that total — each one permanently adds 9 slots, bringing the maximum to 45. The upgrades must be unlocked in sequence and scale up significantly in material requirements.
The first upgrade, Unlock Backpack, is accessible relatively early. You need Iron Ingots and Medium Leather, both obtainable in Zone 1. A Tier 1 Tinkering Workbench is all that is required. At item level 20, this is your first priority once you have basic crafting infrastructure in place.
The second upgrade, Backpack Upgrade I, is a mid-game milestone. Cindercloth Scraps come from the scorched Crucible region, Heavy Leather requires apex predator hunts, and Cobalt Ingots are found in cold mountain zones. You will need a Tier 2 Tinkering Workbench. The jump in difficulty compared to the first upgrade is noticeable.
The third upgrade, Backpack Upgrade II, is a late-game goal. Beyond needing Adamantite Ingots and Storm Leather, it requires a Voidheart — a rare drop from Void-corrupted boss enemies. Additionally, your character must have reached Memories Level 5 before the recipe becomes available to craft at a Tier 3 Tinkering Workbench.
