Getting Secret Units (aka The Grind)
Real talk about obtaining Ragna, Sun Jin Woo, Leouch, and other secret units. I've farmed all of these - here's what actually works and what's a waste of time.
Can You Actually Get These?
Depends. Quick checklist:
- Do you have at least one E2+ mythic carry?
- Can you clear Nightmare consistently (or at least most of the time)?
- Do you have 2-4 hours to dedicate to farming runs?
- Can you handle RNG being... RNG? (Important one)
If you checked all four - yeah, you can do this. If not, work on those first. Trust me, I tried farming Ragna with an E0 team. Died on wave 15. Repeatedly.
Ragna
Dragon Hunter
Ice warrior with a transformation mechanic. Basically if you like big damage numbers that come at a cost (self-destruction after 120s), this is your unit.
Getting Ragna
My experience: 43 runs before hitting pity. My guild mate got it on run 12. Another one took all 75 runs. RNG is RNG.
Fully evolved meta team. I'm talking E2 minimum on your main carry, preferably E4 if you want comfortable clears. You can technically do it with less, but expect to die. A lot.
Time Investment (the part nobody talks about)
Actual time for me: 11 hours spread over 3 days. Did it while catching up on shows. Would've gone insane otherwise.
My Speedrun Setup (7-9 min clears)
- Sun Jin Woo (E2+) - main carry, does most of the work
- 2x Speedcart - rush economy, you need gold fast
- Miku - damage buff for boss waves (10/20/30)
Why this works: Waves 1-20 basically run themselves. Only need to pay attention on boss waves. I literally watched shows while farming this.
Is Ragna Worth It?
If you have Ruler trait reroll tokens saved up - absolutely. Ragna with Ruler is S-tier for Virtual Realm and Infinite Mode.
Without Ruler? Honestly... maybe skip it and go for Sun Jin Woo instead. Dualist works if you're desperate, but you'll feel the damage drop.
What Makes Ragna Good (and Annoying)
Frost Born
Attacks freeze enemies. When they thaw, they get a permanent 30% slow. This replaces dedicated slow units in your comp, which is huge for slot efficiency.
Silverite Battle Trance (The Fun Part)
Manually charge for 30 seconds (unit doesn't attack during this). Each second = Fury stack.
At 120 Fury, transforms with +120% damage, 15s cooldown, auto-freeze everything every 20s.
The catch: Transformation lasts 120 seconds, then unit self-destructs. Plan accordingly.
Pro tip: Keep Fury at 80-90% to get damage bonus without triggering self-destruct. Micro-management hell, but worth it for long fights.
Damage Numbers (Ruler + E6)
Stat Allocation
69 Damage : 30 Cooldown
Balanced for max DPS. I tested 80:20 and 60:40 splits - this one consistently performs best.
Evolution Priority
Minimum viable: E2. Comfortable: E4. Endgame beast: E6.
Things I Learned the Hard Way
- Enable auto abilities when transformed - Shatter skill is too good to manual
- Plan around the 120s transformation timer in boss fights. Lost a Virtual Realm run because transformation ended mid-boss wave. Don't be me.
- Permanent slow effect means Ragna is valuable even in base form. Not just a "transformation or bust" unit.
- Ruler trait isn't optional. I tried Dualist. It works, but you lose ~30% damage. Worth the reroll cost.
Sun Jin Woo
Shadow Monarch
The summon spam king. Deploys shadow soldiers using mana, basically gives you a mini army. High base DPS even before summons kick in.
Getting Sun Jin Woo
Active during banner period + sufficient gems. Start saving NOW if there's a banner announced. We're talking thousands of gems.
Why Everyone Wants This Unit
Shadow Army
Summons shadow soldiers using mana. Each soldier = independent DPS + map coverage. Stack them indefinitely as long as you have mana.
In Infinite Mode, I've had 15+ soldiers active at once. It's ridiculous.
E6 is Mandatory (Not Joking)
E6 reduces mana consumption by 50%. Without this, you run out of mana too quickly for sustained summons.
E0-E5 Sun Jin Woo: Okay-ish
E6 Sun Jin Woo: Completely broken
Don't invest heavily until you can get to E6. Seriously.
Best Use Cases
- Infinite Mode: Dominates. Sustained DPS for days.
- Virtual Realm: Very good. Shadow soldiers help with coverage.
- Story Mode: Overkill but fun to watch
Stuff to Know
- Position strategically - shadow soldiers spawn around the unit
- Pairs well with mana regen buffs (Divine Blessing card in Virtual Realm)
- Ruler trait significantly boosts both main body AND summon damage
- If you only do Story Mode, maybe skip this. High investment for modes you're not playing.
Leouch (Lulu)
Strategic Commander
Support unit with global buffs. Actually obtainable through quest chain instead of pure RNG, which is refreshing.
Getting Leouch - The Quest Route
Account level 30+, multi-step quest chain. Takes time but no RNG. Finally.
Start This Quest Early
Multiple steps, some have time gates. Start it even if you're not ready to complete it yet.
Rewards along the way: 500 gems, multiple reroll tokens, upgrade materials.
What Leouch Actually Does
Tactical Command
Global buffs to all units. Makes your carries hit harder. Think of it as a damage multiplier for your whole team.
Strategic Teleport
Reposition units mid-battle. Niche, but clutch when you need it.
Stat Focus
Range + Cooldown
Support unit - maximize buff uptime and coverage range.
Damage stats don't matter much here. Leouch isn't your carry.
Team Synergy
Pairs exceptionally well with high-DPS units like Sun Jin Woo or Ragna. Buff stacking is real.
Essential for late-game team comps once you start pushing higher waves in Infinite.
Usage Notes
- Traits matter less for support units, but still get Dualist minimum if possible
- Focus on positioning to maximize buff coverage across your carry units
- E6 unlocks maximum support potential - prioritize this after your main DPS units are evolved
- Not a flashy unit, but you'll notice the difference when it's NOT in your team
The Honored One
Limitless Sorcerer
Legendary sorcerer with space manipulation. Extremely rare Story Mode drop.
Note: Drop rate unverified by community. Take these numbers with salt.
Getting The Honored One (Good Luck)
Reality check: I don't have this unit yet. Community reports vary wildly. Some claim drops around 800 runs, others say pity exists at 2000.
Endgame meta team with full evolutions required. This is whale territory.
What Makes It Special
Hollow Purple
Massive AOE damage blast. 500% damage multiplier reported.
E6 unlocks Domain Expansion: stuns all enemies for 5 seconds. Boss killer.
Reported Stats (Ruler + E6)
~12,000 base DPS, 8s cooldown, high range
From community testing - I haven't verified this personally.
Soul Reaper King
Captain Commander
Fire-type unit with burn stacking. Another rare Story Mode drop.
Obtaining
Burn damage stacks make this unit excel in long boss fights. E6 Bankai ability melts regular enemies.
Pirate Emperor
Conqueror King
Hybrid damage + crowd control. Conqueror's Haki stun is no joke.
Obtaining
E6 Advanced Haki ignores shields - perfect counter for Marine Base enemies with high defense.
General Farming Strategy
Priority Order (My Opinion)
- Leouch first - Guaranteed through quest, start early
- Ragna OR Sun Jin Woo - Pick based on your play style:
- Like burst damage + transformation mechanics? → Ragna
- Play Infinite Mode a lot? → Sun Jin Woo
- Story Mode drops last - These are endgame grinds. Get your core team established first.
Resource Management
Don't chase every secret unit immediately. That's how you burn out.
Better approach:
- Get ONE meta secret unit fully evolved
- Use it to farm resources more efficiently
- THEN work on the next one
Quality over quantity. One E6 secret unit > three E0 secret units.
Trait Rerolling Budget
For One Placement units (Ragna, Sun Jin Woo):
- Ruler: Budget 1,200 reroll tokens for guaranteed roll
- Dualist: Much easier, ~300-400 tokens average
If resources are limited, settle for Dualist and save Ruler rolls for your absolute main carry.
Evolution Priority
Secret units reach their potential at E6. But E6 everything is expensive.
Minimum viable tiers:
- Ragna: E2 (transformation duration)
- Sun Jin Woo: E6 (mana reduction - not negotiable)
- Leouch: E4 (buff strength)
Push to E6 once you have materials to spare.
Ragna Drop Calculator
Since Ragna is the most farmable secret unit, here's a calculator for sanity checking your progress.
Questions I Get Asked A Lot
Which secret unit should I farm first?
Leouch - it's guaranteed. Start the quest chain early.
After that? Depends on your team needs. If you lack a good carry, farm Ragna. If you play Infinite Mode, go for Sun Jin Woo when banners drop.
Are the Story Mode drops (0.01% - 0.1%) worth it?
Honestly? Only if you're endgame with nothing else to farm.
I've cleared Nightmare hundreds of times and still don't have The Honored One. Could be bad RNG, could be the rates are worse than reported.
Can I use secret units without Ruler trait?
Yes for Leouch (support unit, traits matter less).
For Ragna and Sun Jin Woo? You CAN, but you're leaving 30-40% damage on the table. Dualist is acceptable. Common trait... just reroll it.
How long did it take you to get all secret units?
Still don't have all of them. Got Leouch (quest), Ragna (43 runs), Sun Jin Woo (banner luck).
Story Mode drops? Still farming. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
Player Reports
Real testing from players using the calculator
Ragna guide speedrun setup worked exactly as described. 7-9 min clears. Watched shows while farming. Hit pity at 75 runs.
- Sun Jin Woo E2 + 2x Speedcart + Miku
- Autopilot waves 1-20
- Manual only on boss waves
Guide said Leouch quest is time-gated. Started it early like suggested. Completed over 2 weeks. Smooth progression.
- Multiple quest steps with daily locks
- Starting early allowed natural progression
- Bonus rewards along the way
